Nikki’s revenge

December 22, 2010 | 7:00 am

I know it isn’t. But in a small and very inappropriate way, Sam’s diabetes is helping Nikki get me back for all those nights she was up when the children were babies.

She fed all three herself, so I couldn’t do night-time feeds – I didn’t (and still don’t BTW) have the equipment!!

And as we were lucky enough that Nikki didn’t have to work, she used to say “I can sleep in the day”. Which I know she didn’t do, but that’s another story.

It always meant though that through three children, I never suffered too much with getting up in the middle of the night, and going to work in a sleep deprived coma.

Until now.

In the last couple of days, his blood’s have risen during the day to over 15 (270) by the time he goes to bed. As they did the week before last. And we are yet to get to grips with it.

So two hourly blood checks and corrections through the night are required. And I want to do them. To make sure Sam comes down as soon as possible. And to let Nikki sleep.

Although, to be honest, neither of us get much sleep when he is this high.

So I’m sure that Nikki’s revenge isn’t very sweet.

This may be a completely wild stab in the dark, but may I haphazardly suggest that this is all fairly scant consolation to your ‘Darling Nikki’?
